I was just listening to SS w/ Ponty. I'd love to have the china, altho, I am unsure as to what I would do with such a gigantic cymbal. I bet that thing takes the caps off beer bottles at 20 ft.

Didn't Randy post these auctions some time ago? I could have sworn I saw that before.

I too would not know what to do with a china that big. I have a 20" Z China and it is way to big. It sounds like cross between a gong and a trash can lid.I have a 12" China Trash and it is sweet!

BTW, what the heck was SS doing playing Paiste? I thought he had been a Zildjian guy as long as he's been a Sonor guy??

I've got a 20" Zildjian oriental china, VERY loud cymbal. But it's pretty versatile.

Steve's china sound sincredible on those old JLP recordings.

Dunno if it's worth a grand though.

Also, I thought Smith used K's for his ride cymbals.

I may be wrong, but the Platinum line came out in the sorta mid-80's, I remember the ads. Smith might have been out of journey by the time they rolled out. Or maybe it was at the end of the frontiers-era.

A grand for a ping ride maybe breathed on by Steve Smith...uh, yeah, marvelous.

The Frontiers tour was 83-84, the platinum series was around 86-88. He probably used that cymbal in a clinic.
The Paiste would be a truer 'Journey era' cymbal since his setup prior to Departure was indeed Paiste.

That ride cymbal looks suspiciously brand new. I'm always wary (weary?) of these types of things. In any case, those cymbals clearly aren't worth $1000 each. Give me a break.

I think there is a pic of Steve with that china on his site from back in the day. Eh, could be it.
